Multiple volunteers from ERMCO joined forces on a chilly morning the last Saturday of April to help a neighbor and homeowner in need to provide her with the repairs and clean-up that made her home safe and healthy. The day started out with our own David Werking who serves as Rebuilding Together Indianapolis' President kicking off opening ceremonies to thank sponsors and volunteers. An Honorary House Captain award was presented in Darrell Gossett's memory as a tribute to his dedication to Rebuilding Together for 19 years.
After the opening ceremonies, volunteers headed to the home of Ms. Yvonne to get to work. Ms. Yvonne recently lost her husband and is battling an illness herself. She needed carpentry, electrical, painting and landscaping work done on her home. Led by House Captain, Brian Wilkerson, the dedicated volunteers were able to complete the work by Saturday afternoon.
Susan and Taylor Wilkerson along with Lauren Pojar cleaned flower beds and planted new flowers. John Burchyett tackled the landscaping with the push mower, weed eater, edger and Yvonne said her yard had never looked better. Scott Anderson helped adjust two screen doors and finished helping clean flower beds and general yard clean up. Garrett Homan was also outside all day and took on the messy task of caulking windows to weatherproof Yvonne's home.
Jim Brown helped Yvonne set up her new Ring doorbell, and along with Scott’s help mounted it to the front door. Jim also helped Yvonne with the best places to shop on the internet so she would be able to shop even when she wasn't feeling well enough to leave her home. Tom Davis installed a new dryer vent, caulked and painted a new window trim, cleaned flower beds and assisted with yard clean up. Drew Pojar, Mike and Aiden Summers and Matt McGregor tackled several electrical tasks for Yvonne that were desperately needed and ventured out into the cold later in the day to help finish the yard clean up.
Brian said after the day, "I cannot stress enough how proud I am of team ERMCO. I am very humbled and proud of our team effort!"
